Bill Lamden’s varied career has included the opening bassoon solo to Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, the opening clarinet solo to Gershwyn’s Rhapsody in Blue, the alto saxophone solo in Bizet’s L’Arlessianne, the solo oboe of Bach’s Second Brandenburg Concerto, and the piccolo obligato in Souza’s Stars and Stripes Forever, just to name a few.While living in Los Angelas, Bill’s professional music career highlights include playing solo clarinet in a Michael Christopher play premiering at the Mark Taper Forum, Lady & The Clarinet, (he was “the clarinet” and an integral part of the show onstage). Music was written by Hollywood composer, Leonard Rosenman. He also played solo clarinet along with oboe, flute and tenor saxophone in the musical revue “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Gershwin” featuring the music and lives of George and Ira Gershwin, which ran for 6 months (8 shows/week) at the Westwood Playhouse, now known as the Geffen Theater, in the Los Angeles. More recently, some of his playing includes musicals, such as Singing in the Rain, Annie Get Your Gun, Into the Woods, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Spelling Bee, Tarzan, Catch Me If You Can, Spamalot, City of Angels, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, and Mary Poppins, to name a few. These shows have been performed at venues around San Diego County, including Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista, Spreckels Theatre, North Park Birch Theatre, Patio Playhouse Plays In the Park series, and others. One of his more recent highlights include playing a Broadway show-themed concert with the San Diego Symphony. Orchestral or symphony engagements include many San Diego community orchestras, such as Poway, Palomar, Grossmont, Tefereth Israel (TICO), New City Symphonia, and SDSU symphony orchestra. |
